What is live in care?

Live-in care involves a carer living in the client’s home. It is the perfect solution for those people who need care throughout the day but don’t want to move to a care home and prefer to stay in the comfort and familiar surroundings of their own home.

If you have had domiciliary carers visit you on a regular basis you will know that your activities for the day can be interrupted by the arrival of the carers.  Their visits are time limited, so you must stop what you are doing and allow them to carry out their support.

With live in care you do not have these constraints.  Your live in carer is with you throughout the day meaning that you can have the support and care that you need at the time you need it.

If you want to have a lie in you can. Want to go out for lunch on the spur of the moment? You can. If you want to go shopping, you can, at what ever time you like.

Live in care offers a cost effective alternative to residential care whilst having the benefits of flexible one to one care. It also enables you to retain your property and gives you the security of having someone living with you.

Links with friends, family and neighbours and involvement with the local community can be more easily maintained.

Live in care offers a cost effective alternative to residential care whilst having the benefits of flexible one to one care.  It also enables you to retain your property and gives you the peace of mind of having someone living with you.

If care is required for a couple, it can often be arranged for a small additional charge subject to care needs and assessment.

At Purely Care we aim to provide a conscientious, professional and friendly care service. Our live-in carers will provide you with the assistance and support necessary to continue with your chosen lifestyle in your own home with your pets, treasured belongings and memories.

With 24/7 live in care you can avoid the disruption and trauma of starting a different life in a care home.

How does live in care work in practice?

We will arrange a no obligation meeting with you at home to discuss your care needs. With your input we will develop a personalised care plan that respects your needs and wishes and enables you to continue to live your life to the full, in your own home.

Unlike with an introductory service, Purely Care’s live in carers are all directly employed by the company. We offer a fully managed live-in care service where you care will be regularly reviewed by one of our care managers.

Many of our live in carers work on a 2-week on / 2-week off work pattern. So we usually have a small team of 2 or 3 regular carers returning to look after you.  They can help you will all the care needs domiciliary carers can help with such as. washing and dressing, taking medication, preparing meals and light housework.

You can also see examples of our live in care work on our Case Studies page.

If you would like to know more about how live in care works, what’s required or how much it costs please feel free to contact our friendly and approachable team at our Norwich office on 01603 407707.

Criminal records checks and continuity of care

For your safety and peace of mind, all our care staff are vetted by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) at an enhanced level. To ensure the integrity of our staff we also obtain suitable references from previous employers before employment.

We believe that consistency of care worker is important for both client and care worker as both parties get to know each other well. However, it is never possible to rely on a single carer as everyone has to have some time off. The number of carers involved in a care package will depend on the complexity of the client’s needs and behaviour.

Purely Care seek to keep the number of carers visiting to a minimum. For live-in care we recommend starting with a two week rotation which enables the staff to get to understand the client’s routine and gives a small team of regular carers to ensure holidays and sickness can be covered.

Care Planning

With your input we will develop a personalised care plan that respects your needs and wishes and enables you to continue to live your life to the full, in your own home.

In May 2024 during Norfolk County Council’s quality assessment they found, “All persons spoken with confirmed that they were fully involved with planning their care. family members and service users explained that they were asked about what they wanted, what was important to them and details around their lives. Those spoken with confirmed that they were also involved in the review of their care plan and that they had been asked to sign both the initial care plan and subsequent reviews.”
